Resumen del proyecto

During 2006 AIET organized the Awareness Campaign “El Papel de la Energía en el Cambio Climático” with the goal of warning the population about the relation that exists between energy consumption and the emission of greenhouse gasses and climate change, and of the need of making an efficient use of energy in our everyday life and of supporting clean energy sources.

The activities of the Campaign revolve around the Climate Change exhibition called “El Cambio Climático: impactos, causas y soluciones”, elaborated by CLARITY, Acción Educativa por el Clima, Project in which the Environmental Ministry of Spain collaborates. This exhibition could be visited in several municipalities of the island during the months between July and November 2006 thanks to the collaboration of various public and private agencies. The exhibition was accompanied with talks, guided visits and Workshops for children.

The activities took place in various municipalities pursuing the maximum disclosure in the island and reach the maximum number of people:

– ITER. Granadilla de Abona ( from July 15th to 22nd )

– Caja Rural de Tenerife. Santa Cruz de Tenerife (From July 24th to 30th)

– Aula del Mar del Loro Parque. Puerto de la Cruz (July 24th to July 30th)

– Candelaria (October 2nd to October 8th)

– Santa Úrsula (October 9th to October 13th)

– Adeje (October 23rd to 29th)

– Santiago del Teide (October 30th to November 8th)

– Reina Sofía Airport. Granadilla de Abona (November 13th to November 24th)

The Campaign was inaugurated during the Eolica Festival, on July 15th 2006, coinciding with the celebration of the Tenerife Renewable Energy Day, which is promoted by AIET and has the support of the Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign 2005-2008, Sustenergy. The campaign activity program and the Basis for the I Drawing Contest about the climate change “El Cambio Climático” were presented during the conferences, and numerous activities were carried out.

Furthermore, AIET 1st drawing contest “El Cambio Climático” aimed at the elementary Centres of the Island was promoted and developed along with the actions of the campaign. This contest was designed to know the children’s point of view with regard to the relationship of energy consumption with the greenhouse effect gas emissions and the solutions that they give to fight against the Climate Change; promoting as well the treatment of this subject in the classrooms.

A total of 45 paintings were received, from which the winners were selected: Alexander Gunnarson Bordes, 10-year-old student of Trinity private school and Elizabeth Rodriguez Govea, 8-year-old student of the Lope de Guerra public school. The Award Ceremony took place on January 19th, 2007 in the Noble Hall of the Insular Government building, with the presence of President of the Cabildo Insular of Tenerife and AIET president, representatives of Loro Parque and ITER, and the winning students along with their parents and teachers.

The students were awarded with diplomas, an accrediting board for the School Centre, educational material on renewable energies, a voucher to carry out workshops on renewable energies in their classrooms, and another for a visit to the Loro Parque along with their class. A special mention was also given for the Centre with more participation, which was the Public School Ntra. Señora de Los Angeles.

AIET carried out the workshops on energy and Climate Change for students in Elementary schools who won in the First Drawing Contest “Climate Change” in March 2007. The activities developed during the workshop were:

  • Presentations: “Energy Chain in the Canary Islands”, “Climate Change” and “Renewable Energy and Energy Saving”
  • Workshop on Climate Change and Greenhouse Effect.
  • Videos of energy saving for children
  • Assembling of Wind Socks
